The platypus, an Australian native animal and well known for the fact that they are one of two of the only mammals in the world who lay eggs, called monotremes (other being echidna). They are the size ranging about 50 cm for males and 43cm for females, have dark and light brown hair and have an underfur underneath their hair which is a grey to dark brown colour. Platypuses mainly spend their time in the water, searching for food which they find at the bottom of river or stream floors, for they have a streamline body and short legs, used for swimming but then fold away their webbed like feet for land use.
Platypus’s live in rivers or streams on the eastern side of Australia, the food they catch is usually found underwater, such as marine insects or occasionally fresh water shrimp through their duck like bill. Although the platypus has no teeth, they use a somewhat grinding plate on their upper and lower surfaces of their jaw to chew their food. |
